THE CIRCLE
in the witness of the circle, i am seen
in the silence of listening
voices hear, i am not ignored
in the presence of embrace
bodies know, i am not alone
in the light of awareness
hearts can see, i am not unseen
in the still waters of eyes, reflecting my "i"s
my secret shame, begins to breathe
sit with me around the circle, and let us agree:
harm not one—self or another
offer all, peace, attend, shun free
avert not our eyes; see clearly
wrong feelings well, come, hold dis-ease
honor one—another, our-selves
render faith—fully, the shadow
of the unseen
let us close our "i"s, and dream:
mountain forest—round alpine lake
autumn eyes, arboreal seas
rooted, hear-now, we breathe as one
blue see-sky, flowering gentle breeze
roll sway, lake—leaves, shimmer ring shine
h-eart-h pulsing, sky open, streaming
l-EYE-ght, sun beams
in the lake's still waters, skies mirroring skies
witness—the circle, unbroken, here, now-seen
let us take our turns, and speak:
lake flung longings, bounce echo sinks
love's quarrels, streaks comet sky screams
journey's roads cross far-"i"-zon seeks
dar-kening days, rising sleep-leaves
winds chime, rings—attic, empty chairs
summerhoods, childdays, gently down
the cheek stream
in the great circle of life, lives reflecting lives
witness—the well-water, the river-truth——tears-seen
sea-cleaves
atop
hopes
h-"I"-gh, peak-dreams
