If an enemy has deceived us,
yet we continue to exist,
let us thank them for teaching us how we are weak
If a friend has betrayed us,
yet we continue to exist,
let us thank them for showing us we lack discernment
If a merchant has swindled us,
yet we continue to exist,
let us thank them for showing us we need to be wiser
If a politician has conned us,
yet we continue to exist,
let us thank them for helping us learn to trust ourselves more
If we have awakened to the depth and depravity of society's lies,
and yet we continue to exist,
let us thank Life for this opportunity to learn to love the truth
If all we have loved is taken from us,
yet we continue to exist,
let us humble ourselves before all we do not know
and be thankful for this opportunity
to demonstrate to our future Self
how we had the courage to embody our values
to turn toward hope and imagine better
even as the wildfire took from us all we beloved
